Hello and welcome!
I used to have this Meal Share Plan blog as a secondary blog chronicling our journey (with 3 families) cooking and sharing food with each other. Since I’ve merged the 2 sites, I ask you to subscribe specifically for the Meal Share Plan posts (upon signup in my sidebar) if you want up-to-the date posts on what we are cooking on a large scale.
In further detail, the meal share plan was devised in January 2014 in order to save time in the kitchen since I wanted extra time for other kitchen endeavors related to my classes and recipe development. I had been a part of a program like this several years ago with a total of 4 families and thought it worked out so well, but it had been a vegan meal share and my husband quickly vetoed it! I decided to re-visit the program with new guidelines, new diets, and new people. My friends and I did a 3 week trial, which was very successful, and everyone unanimously and vigorously voted to continue, much to my happiness.
This part of my blog is designed to be inspirational to others to try a meal share program of your own, and to see what kind of recipes we have tried. I want to document week by week what we have cooked, with recipe links and photos, our challenges, and our successes. I imagine there will be times we take breaks, and there is no guarantee we will be doing this still in 6 months, but even having done it just for 3 weeks saved our family time, money, and most importantly we ATE WELL and HEALTHY. It has also been a wonderful way to try new recipes on people and also to try new foods on my children made by someone other than me.
So, what exactly is a meal share? How would I start one? What’s an example of what I can cook? How will I find the time to cook for so many people? How much does it cost? Do I have enough kitchen equipment? These are all questions I have the answer to, well, most of those questions :), so stay tuned for more posts. Thanks for reading about it and I hope you try it one day!
